How it works

Orbitmuse is a platform for funding scientific discoveries and Space exploration projects, and empowers people to activate the global community to make really big ideas happen. We help you spread the word. Your journey to launch is then up to you.

You can fund anything from a CubeSat, a new aerospace material, or an experiment on the International Space Station. If it helps unlock new Space exploration opportunities, then we can fund it using our technology. Every dollar you contribute towards science helps push the boundaries of humanity's ascent to the stars.

The Public Funding Model

Backers directly fund explorers' projects, so there is no middleman or overhead involved (compared 50-60% when receiving a grant at a university). We are an all-or-nothing funding platform. This means the project must reach the funding target, or no one's pledges are charged.

Project Review & Approval

Anyone can start a new project, as long as the results are tangible, and a reward shared with Backers as gratitude for their support. All projects are rigorously reviewed, provided feedback, and scientifically approved by the Orbitmuse Mission Control team. We have partnered with DreamUp to create truly world-class science review team, and provide an unmatched review and trust factor for our platform. What makes a good project?

  • Ingenuity, Uniqueness
  • Solves a direct, tangible goal
  • Funding requirements are attainable
  • Provides updates regularly with images, video, posts (images speak a thousand words)
  • Rewards for Backers are tangible, and respective of funding levels i.e. you may want to give a Backer more than a t-shirt for funding your cubesat project $10,000

Explorers share progress, data, and project results directly with Backers. As a Backer, you'll be able to see how much of a scientific or industry impact you've made from your funding efforts. The journey of projects only begin here, and we hope will continue on their course long after successfully funding.

  • Space Medicine
  • Astrobiology
  • Terraforming
  • Drones & Robotics

There are three simple rules every project must follow.

Projects must create something to share with others

Orbitmuse can be used to create all sorts of projects. But every project needs a plan for creating something and sharing it with the world. At some point, the creator should be able to say: “It’s finished. Here’s what we created. We are go for launch!”

Projects must be honest and clearly presented

Our community is built on trust and communication. Projects can’t mislead people or misrepresent facts, and creators should be candid about what they plan to accomplish. When a project involves manufacturing and distributing something complex, like a satellite or rocket, we require projects to show a quality rendering or prototype of what they’re making.

Projects can’t fundraise for charity, offer financial incentives, or involve prohibited items

We’re all in favor of charity and investment, but they’re not permitted on Orbitmuse (yet). Projects can’t promise to donate funds raised to a charity or cause, and they can’t offer financial incentives like equity or repayment. We also can’t allow any projects to contain prohibited or illegal things. These rules don’t cover every possible use of Orbitmuse, but they explain our purpose and perspective.
